The former major of the guard at the Allegheny County Jail is scheduled to plead guilty to deprivation of civil rights at an Oct. 15 hearing, according to a judge's order filed in U.S. District Court Wednesday.

James M. Donis, 50, of Shaler, was accused of beating former jail inmate Gary W. Barbour, who tried to escape. The alleged beating is also the subject of a civil lawsuit against Mr. Donis and the county.

Mr. Donis' attorney, Charles Porter, could not be reached for comment.
