Duquesne University dormitories reopen today

Three Duquesne University residence halls that lost power Thursday, forcing relocation of 1,300 students, reopened today at noon, the university reported.
The St. Ann, St. Martin and Assumption halls lost power at about 10:20 a.m. Thursday, from what crews later determined was a faulty electric cable underneath Academic Walk, spokeswoman Bridget Fare said.
Work is under way to replace the cable. Meanwhile, the residence halls are being powered by a generator.
Of the affected students, slight more than half went home or stayed off-campus, with the other staying on campus with friends, in other dorm rooms and in lounges, Ms. Fare said.
The university set up cots in a ballroom, but few used them, she said in an email. "Despite the inconvenience, students have been remarkably patient."
Friday classes were canceled. The university was working to restore the regular power supply.
