PennDOT will again close the northbound Portal Bridge connecting the Fort Pitt and Fort Duquesne bridges this weekend as it continues an $8.7 million project to improve several connections between Downtown Pittsburgh and the interstate system.

The ramp, and others affected this weekend, will be closed at 10 p.m. Friday and will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.

The last closure of the ramps, on a June weekend when the Pirates were at home, produced epic traffic jams on the Parkway West and Parkway East. The Pirates are in Milwaukee this weekend.

Other ramps that will be closed this weekend: Fort Pitt Boulevard to the Fort Duquesne Bridge; Commonwealth Place to the Fort Duquesne Bridge; Fort Pitt Bridge to Fort Duquesne Boulevard and 10th Street Bypass; and southbound Fort Duquesne Bridge to Fort Duquesne Boulevard.

Also this weekend, PennDOT will restrict traffic on the southbound Veterans Bridge to one lane, and will again close the ramp from the northbound Liberty Bridge to northbound Interstate 579-Crosstown Boulevard. The restrictions will begin at 8 p.m. Friday and be lifted by 6 a.m. Monday.
