Allegheny County sheriff's deputies have been ordered to shut down the Brookline Pub this morning because the county says the operator owes back drink taxes.

County Treasurer John Weinstein, who announced the legal action Thursday, said the bar operator owes more than $50,000 in overdue drink taxes.

If the closing takes place as scheduled at 11 a.m., the Brookline Pub would be the fourth business this month to have been closed in connection with non-payment of the 7 percent levy on poured drinks. The phone line at the bar, at 734 Brookline Blvd., remained busy Thursday afternoon.

Mr. Weinstein has authorized the filing of more than 120 lawsuits against delinquent establishments since 2008 that have brought in $1 million in back taxes. During that time, 30 establishments have been shut down and padlocked.
