A proposal to rename Pittsburgh's 16th Street Bridge in honor of historian David McCullough has been sent to an Allegheny County Council committee for review.

Council members on Wednesday received a recommendation from a special review committee that urged renaming the span for Mr. McCullough, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Pittsburgh native who speaks often about his local roots.

The proposal appears popular with council members, and Councilwoman Barbara Daly Danko, D-Regent Square, predicted that appropriate legislation could be passed by the end of November. The renaming ordinance has seven co-sponsors, just one short of a majority on the 15-member council.
