Although he has decided not to seek a third term on Allegheny County Council, Jim Burn says he has no intention of leaving politics.

"I am going to focus on party building, but I would be surprised if I did not run for office again," Mr. Burn said Thursday. "I'll know the opportunity when I see it."

He will continue to serve as state chairman of the Democratic Party as he completes his final year on council.

Mr. Burn, a lawyer and former mayor of Millvale, has been on county council since 2006, serving as president from March 2011 through the end of that year. A veteran multi-tasker, he was county council president, county Democratic chairman and state party chief during a portion of that time.

He and his wife, Lori, live in Millvale with their two sons. Their home is next door to the house where Mr. Burn, a Garfield native, grew up.

Despite his strong identification with the Democratic Party, Mr. Burn said he was proud of being part of several bipartisan efforts to pass county legislation.
