Adoptions and other services are free from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Free Fur Fall event at the Animal Rescue League Shelter in Larimer.

People can bring in their own pet dogs for free dog washes. Dogs and other pets can be brought in for free nail trims and free micro-chips, which are embedded in the skin with identification information that can be scanned by veterinarians, police and shelters to reunite lost animals with their owners.

Free Fur Fall is part of the ASPCA Rachel Ray $100K challenge, which runs from Aug. 1 to Oct. 31. ARL is one of many shelters across the country competing for $500,000 in prizes. The goal is for shelters to increase their adoption rates.

There have been more than 1,365 adoptions during the competition, and that's more than 200 more than last year in the same time period.

The shelter is located at 6620 Hamilton Ave.
