Work planned at Collier's Hilltop Park

Collier's Hilltop Park is one of 198 recreational projects in Pennsylvania to share in $26.5 million in revitalization and conservation money.
"Our parks are among the things that tie us all together -- a place to meet for leisure, for entertainment, for recreation and for tourism," the governor announced Nov. 20.
The park on 3.8 acres at the crest of Hilltop Road offers a panoramic view as well as proximity to the 50-acre Woodville State Hospital land that was donated to the township when the hospital was closed and sold.
The current Hilltop Park was donated in 1998 by CMS-Nevillewood and developed with a $15,000 grant from CMS-Nevillewood, as well as a matching grant from the Allegheny County Department of Development.
The park has a childrens' play area and a picnic area, but the addition of $149,000 from the state will provide for the development of a new pavilion at the site, as well as other improvements, including in part Americans With Disabilities Act access, landscaping and updates signs.
The park is near the Cherry Hill, Oak Hill and Nevillewood housing developments.
In a related matter, Collier will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the courts and fields at the 72-acre Collier Park at 10 a.m. next Thursday. The new park at the former Charles E. Kelly Support Facility is at 5 Lobaugh Road.
With work on the 72-acre Collier Township Community Park on Nike Site Road also in the works, Mr. Sirabella stressed that officials would be watching expenditures carefully.
Only about one acre of the 55-acre Hilltop Park is developed with a pavilion and children's play equipment. With no sidewalks leading to it, the park has limited access.
