Dean Hastings of Multi Print Media was re-elected chairman of the Pittsburgh Airport Area Chamber of Commerce at its recent executive committee election.
Jim Gill from the Allegheny County Airport Authority was elected treasurer, Jim Steigerwald from PNC (Moon) was re-elected first vice chairman, Warren Byers from M.W. Byers Co. was re-elected a vice chairman, and Alisa Faulk from Courtyard by Marriott (Settlers Ridge) also was elected a vice chairman.
• Three Moon Area students received honors at the recent civics fair at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture in Pittsburgh. Ashley Hall won for her video entry, "The 18-year-old Vote." Abigail Eberts won for her opinion entry on a constitutional amendment. Both are juniors. Senior Allison Murphy finished third for her entry on the Electoral College.
• The winners of the recent Carnegie Elks Post 831 annual Hoop Shoot Contest at Our Lady of Grace School were T'Rell Gibbs of Carnegie Elementary School and Ashley Rossler, also of Carnegie elementary (8- to 9-year-olds); Nathan Kirsch of St. Philip School and Dominique Felix of Our Lady of Grace School (10- to 11-year-olds); Armando Novelli of Our Lady of Grace and Alana Felix of Our Lady of Grace (12- to 13-year-olds).
• The St. Philip team of Audrey Wrabley, Ella Wrabley, Linda Ashby and Andalushia Reilly won the grades 4-5 division of the recent Science Bowl sponsored by the Allegheny Intermediate Unit at the Carnegie Science Center.
• Ohio Technical College in Cleveland has awarded $1,000 scholarships to these SkillsUSA contestants from Parkway West Career and Technology Center who placed in an automotive-related competition. Two students are from the automotive technology II program: Brian Bennett, a junior from Cornell High School, and Joey Laird, a junior from West Allegheny High School. Three students are from the auto body repair II program: Jake Onoffrey, a junior from Montour High School; Robert Gilligan, a senior from Cornell; and Derek D'Amore, a senior from West Allegheny.
