Two Moon Area High School students won honors at Civics Fair 2011, a collaboration between Greater Pittsburgh Student Voices and the Youth Media Advocacy Project, which is supported by Carlow University and funded by The Heinz Endowments. Ashley Hall won first place for her entry on the history of women's suffrage, which was compiled into a documentary. Allison Murphy won third place for her entry on the importance of student involvement in politics.
• Recent Carlynton students of the month were Kylee Mersher , grade seven; Richard Franchek , grade eight; Logan Schuler , grade nine; Daniel Kolb , grade 10; Maria Kalymon , grade 11; and Adam Koval , grade 12.
