The township parks and recreation department will begin accepting reservations for shelters in Moon Park at 9 a.m. Monday in the municipal building.
Reservations will be for residents only. Shelter reservations for nonresidents will be accepted starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Moon park office, Ewing Road.
• These roads have been selected for paving this year: Meade Drive, Bon Highland Drive, 100 block of Westbury Drive, Greenlea Drive, Minton Drive, Meadow Vue Drive, Shafer Vue Drive, Commerce Drive, Commerce Avenue, Commerce Drive Extension, Ridge Road, George Street, Ridge Star Drive, Skylark Drive, Hawthorn Drive, Spruce Drive, Tottenham Drive and Overhead Drive.
Township engineer Malcolm Petroccia said the list could change based on the bids received.
• Manager Jeanne Creese said a citizen request button has been added to the township website, www.moontwp.com .
Residents can click on the button and choose whether to file a complaint or offer a suggestion. Ms. Creese said residents can register online and get a tracking number for their complaint or suggestion or they can submit information anonymously.
If residents want to check on the progress of their suggestion or complaint, they can call the township and provide the tracking number so that the administration can find it and offer information on it.
• Supervisors have directed the manager to speak with Robinson and the state Department of Transportation about safety issues at the intersection of Beaver Grade and Montour Run roads. Chairman Marvin Eicher said many Moon residents use that intersection, which involves two state roads and is in both communities.
He said that the Sonoma Ridge developer has committed to make a contribution of about $100,000.
• Supervisors voted 5-0 to hire Jim Chorba, a consultant in heating, ventilation and air conditioning from North Huntington. His firm, JACCO Specialty Services, will be paid $155 per hour to create bid specifications for repairing the leaking roof and the failing heating, air conditioning and ventilation system plus addressing the lack of storage space in the Moon Township Public Library.
Former commissioner Dan Tallon was honored Monday night for 12 years of service on the board, where he served the past four years as chairman.
His wife, Jane, accepted the honors on his behalf -- a plaque from the township and a citation from the office of state Rep. Nick Kotik, D-Robinson.
Officials said Mr. Tallon was ill at home but watching a television broadcast of the meeting.
The commissioners, township attorney Sam Kamin and others made comments of appreciation of Mr. Tallon and wished him improved health and an enjoyable retirement.
Pam Ripple, from Mr. Kotik's office, acknowledged Mr. Tallon for serving as commissioner for parks and recreation and the police department and as a representative in the CharWest Council of Governments.
She credited Mr. Tallon for his work to develop the Burkett Sports and Recreation Complex, to support the library and to initiate the township's annual Autumn Festival.
"His spirit of giving and dedication has greatly impacted the lives of others," she said.
Mr. Tallon, whose term expired at the end of 2011, had been unable to attend meetings due to illness.
