Victory Tech school to help veterans find jobs

Coraopolis is the home of Victory Tech, a new school that will help military personnel find jobs that use their skills in the civilian world.
The school at 429 Mill St. will teach math, science and engineering with an eye to incorporating them in the technology field.
It will be open to civilians as well as military veterans.
Daniel Nichols, CEO of Victory Tech, said he is excited about the school and hopes to be able to offer associate degree programs.
He described the school as a learning studio with a flexible format and said it will be like an apprenticeship with a single goal of obtaining jobs for students.
Classes will be administered online and at the school.
He said the instructors' goal is to find people for hard-to-fill jobs, working with colleges, universities and unions.
Chris Hale, chairman of Victory Media, a Coraopolis business that publishes magazines and builds websites, said Victory Tech is not trying to be a trade school or to replace community college.
He said the school is looking at on-the-job training programs, forming relationships with employers and designing courses specifically for the energy field.
The school expects to enroll 20 students a quarter.
