The University of Phoenix will phase out its classroom center in Robinson as part of a wider plan to shutter 115 satellite learning centers and campuses nationally amid enrollment and earnings declines.
Phoenix also has discontinued plans to locate Downtown, spokesman Ryan Rauzon said Thursday.
The Robinson location at 6 Penn Center Blvd. will remain open for an unspecified period until 100 or so students enrolled there finish their degrees. After that, Pittsburgh area students can enroll online, Mr. Rauzon said.
About 30 jobs will be lost in the Pittsburgh area, he said.
Nationally, Phoenix has announced 800 layoffs and the closure of 25 campuses and 90 smaller satellite learning centers. The move affects 13,000 students, or about 4 percent, of the university's 328,000 students, Mr. Rauzon said.
Phoenix is keeping its Philadelphia campus.
