Two ordered to stand trial in man's beating death

Two men were ordered to stand trial today on charges that they beat an 81-year-old Beaver County man who died in a hospital more than three weeks after the attack.
Beau Chermer, 22, of McKees Rocks, and Joseph Arlott, 25, of McKees Rocks, are being held in the Beaver County Prison on charges of homicide, assault, robbery and other crimes, according to online court records.
Hopewell police said a caretaker tending to Daniel Santia found him bloody, battered and bound with zip ties on the bottom floor of his home when she went to work on the morning of April 30.
Police wrote in in a criminal complaint that Mr. Chermer and Mr. Arlott went to Mr. Santia's home about 6 p.m. April 29, forced their way through the door, beat Mr. Santia and sprayed him in the eyes with something.
Mr. Santia, who spent more than three weeks in Sewickley Hospital after the attack, told investigators the men continued to beat him when they struggled to find money in his house, at one point binding him and hitting him with a miniature baseball bat.
Family members who went to the house afterward told officers some jewelry and a 2008 Cadillac GTS were also missing after the beating.
Also arrested was Samantha Greno, 19, whom police have said drove the men to Mr. Santia's house but did not assist in the robbery. She has been charged with robbery, assault and other offenses but not with homicide. She is due in court for a preliminary hearing on June 28, according to online court records.
