Two boys robbed an 84-year-old female churchgoer in Sheraden after she agreed to give them a ride down the block, police said.

She had just left Holy Innocents Roman Catholic Church on Landis Street when two young black males approached her and asked if she would drive them down the street, Pittsburgh police Zone 6 Cmdr. Scott Schubert said.

When she stopped to let them out of the car at the corner of Ashlyn and Landis streets, he said they reached over, grabbed her purse and ran onto Brutus Way.

In the confusion after the robbery, Cmdr. Schubert said the car crashed into a fire hydrant, setting off the car's security system and alerting 911 dispatchers.

When police arrived, he said they found her purse -- missing a change wallet, some cash and a credit card -- in a vacant garage on Brutus Way.

According to the descriptions the woman gave the police, one boy was about 10 years old, small and wearing a red shirt and the other was about 12, heavyset and wearing a blue and white T-shirt.

Cmdr. Scott Schubert asked anyone with information call 412-937-3051.
