Robinson commissioners voted 4-1 tonight to immediately terminate using the legal services of law firm Goldberg, Kamin & Garvin LLP of Pittsburgh, ending a roughly 20-year professional relationship.

Board members voted unanimously to appoint attorney John L. Butya of Robinson as interim solicitor for 30 days, or as needed, and to advertise for a new permanent solicitor.

They also appointed Mr. Butya as the attorney for the township planning commission.

Chairman Samuel Abatta, who voted against firing Goldberg, Kamin & Garvin, said the action was added during a closed-door executive session just prior to the public meeting.

"It was a surprise to some people on the board," he said.

Neither Samuel Kamin nor Bob Garvin -- the attorneys primarily representing Robinson -- attended the voting meeting, although they were present in the municipal building beforehand.
