A gunshot to the head killed a man in McKees Rocks this morning.

A neighbor found Javon Riley, 19, of McKees Rocks, lying dead in the road near the intersection of Vine and Rosamond streets about 6:20 a.m.

Mr. Riley's girlfriend, who lives within walking distance, told police he awoke to a cell phone call about 4 a.m. He left shortly afterward for reasons his girlfriend did not know, McKees Rocks police Chief Robert Cifrulak said.

Neighbors who live near where the body was discovered told police they heard popping noises about 4 a.m. but did not call 911 because they could not distinguish whether they were firecrackers or gunshots, the chief said.

Chief Cifrulak said Mr. Riley was unarmed when police found his body lying behind his girlfriend's car.

Police do yet have a motive for the shooting but are investigating the possibility that he might have been lured out of the house to be shot, the chief said.

Police have not yet released any information about potential suspects. Chief Cifrulak said they do not have witnesses to the shooting.
