Oakdale thankful emergency plan went unused

Oakdale--a community that had been hit hard by the remnants of Hurricane Ivan in 2004--established an emergency plan for Hurricane Sandy this week but luckily didn't have to use it.
"By the grace of God, we didn't have a flood," council president Ron Gamble said tonight. (11/1)
The borough's Community Emergency Response Team had met Monday (10/29) to set shelter locations and make other preparations in case of a flood or power outage, Mayor Paul Hennemuth said.
Residents said the borough did a good job of swiftly communicating emergency information via Oakdale's website, Facebook page and automated phone system.
Police Chief Jim Lauria said the only significant problem Monday night was pooling on Clinton Road at Clef Drive due to clogged storm sewers, which were cleared by Oakdale Hose Company volunteers.
