North Fayette police Chief Jeffrey J. Falconer is set to retire Dec. 31.

Supervisors approved his retirement tonight and expressed appreciation for his longtime service.

Chief Falconer, 57, has spent his entire 35-year career working his way through the ranks of the township's police department. He has served as chief the past five years.

Chief Falconer said he plans to pursue possible teaching positions and to continue teaching junior archery.

"There are still goals I'd like to accomplish through other avenues, better served outside the police department," he said. "It's time to hand over the reins to a younger generation of leaders."
