North Fayette planning commission members voted 5-0 Tuesday to give preliminary approval to development of a community center on 9 acres in Donaldson Community Park.

The township manager and engineer presented plans for a two-story building with a gymnasium and 154 parking spaces.

Manager Bob Grimm said construction of the $2.5 million to $3 million facility will begin with 16,000 to 18,000 square feet of space, and the township will build another 10,000 to 12,000 square feet "as growth dictates and funds dictate."

Supervisors also must approve the plans.
