The death of a 20-year-old woman who was found unresponsive in her McKees Rocks apartment early Thursday has been deemed suspicious by the Allegheny County medical examiner's office.
McKees Rocks police Chief Robert Cifrulak said Ladrea Freeman stayed up late studying Wednesday in her bedroom at the Locust Street apartment she shares with her boyfriend and their infant. Her boyfriend told police he fell asleep elsewhere in the apartment and awoke to hear the baby crying sometime between 2 and 3 a.m. Thursday. He yelled at her to tend to the child, and when he heard no reply, he went to her bedroom and found her unresponsive in her bed.
She was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:59 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office. An autopsy performed Thursday was inconclusive. The medical examiner's office said a determination of the cause and manner of death was pending tests and further investigation.
Chief Cifrulak said Ms. Freeman appeared to be healthy and bore no obvious signs of trauma. Allegheny County homicide detectives are investigating the case.
