James Martin, 56, of Ambridge, has been identified as the motorist killed Friday when he lost control of his car just before 10 a.m. and crashed into a utility pole on Route 18 in Center, near Monaca.
Beaver County Coroner Teri Tatalovich-Rossi said the cause of the accidental death was blunt force trauma.
Mr. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:15 a.m Friday.
Center police Chief Barry Kramer said Mr. Martin had been traveling north on Route 18 when he noticed, too late, that traffic had stopped ahead of him at the intersection with Center Commons Boulevard.
His car went out of control as he avoided a collision with the vehicle in front of him. His car then struck a utility pole.
The wreckage caused police to shut down Route 18 for nearly two hours.
