Change sought in Robinson
The exodus of administrative personnel in Robinson is not only alarming, it is troublesome and expensive. Over the past 12 months, two elected officials and two administrative employees have resigned and the solicitor is being replaced.
At first blush, one might think that the township has a turnover problem. However, after witnessing the commissioners' meeting on Feb. 4, I am convinced that turnover is not the problem. It is, rather, symptomatic of a larger problem -- ineffective leadership.
Throughout the meeting, the commissioners bickered and taunted one another as though they were schoolchildren. One such outburst involved a situation regarding the hiring of a special purpose counsel to resolve a long-standing legal dispute.
It would be an understatement to say that a lively discussion ensued. The barbs and taunts were not only embarrassing to the attending public, they were circus-like and extremely unprofessional.
What is most disconcerting about situations of this nature is that employees and citizens of the township view such buffoonery as confusing and frustrating.
Any human resource professional knows that confusion and frustration lead to employee turnover and that turnover is expensive. This costs the taxpayers dearly.
Clearly, a change in leadership is in order if Robinson is to retain a stable, professional workforce.
