The tri-community streetscape project encompassing Route 50, known locally as East Railroad Street in Heidelberg, Carothers Avenue in Scott and Third Street in Carnegie is set to begin construction in April with work in Carnegie, Heidelberg Mayor Kenneth LaSota said at the borough council meeting tonight.

The $2.4 million project, funded with a Department of Transportation grant secured by U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, will feature new sidewalks, lampposts, benches, landscaping, and a linear park in Heidelberg along Route 50. Creating an "urban boulevard" to connect all three communities is the goal of the project.

Mayor LaSota said after construction is completed in Carnegie, work will start in Scott and then finish in Heidelberg by the first week in July.
