A former Kennedy police officer pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to mail fraud.

Frank A. Caligiuri Jr., 42, of Robinson will be sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Maurice B. Cohill on Nov. 15.

According to a federal indictment, Mr Caligiuri reported a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle stolen to Geico insurance in 2009, when he had actually sold it in West Virginia.

He collected nearly $15,000 in his false insurance claim.

Mr. Caligiuri previously faced a charge of aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court for striking a pedestrian Aug. 27, 2010, on West Carson Street, but that count was thrown out by a magisterial district judge, and prosecutors declined to prosecute him on related charges of DUI in February.
