Fire at Moon apartment injures one, displaces family of six

A woman suffered a minor burn when her Moon apartment caught fire for reasons investigators are still trying to determine.
The fire was reported just before 11:30 a.m. at an apartment building in the 100 block of Pillar Drive.
Firefighters found heavy smoke billowing from the building, though it appeared the blaze itself started in a bedroom of an apartment unit in the middle of the building, police said. That prompted evacuations of residents in about six other units on both sides of the building.
Police did not know how many people were home at the time, but said more than 20 were temporarily displaced due to the damage.
Jess Levens, a spokesman for the complex's Boston-based owner, The Community Builders Inc., said most of the damage was in just the one apartment, occupied by a family of six. The other six apartments in the complex are habitable, he said.
The woman was taken to UPMC Mercy for treatment and was expected to survive.
Firefighters from at least three agencies were called to the scene. The Allegheny County fire marshal and Moon fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire, which was under control about one hour later.
