The Neville Island Volunteer Fire Department plans to donate two trucks stocked with clothing, food and other items to firefighters in New York hard-hit by Hurricane Sandy in late October.

The department will send a fire truck and another vehicle to the Point Breeze Volunteer Fire Department in Queens, where a fire in the wake of the storm wiped out dozens of homes. They are soliciting donations for the following: new or gently worn clothing, new blankets, pillows, and towels, non-perishable food items, canned goods, bottled water, mops, brooms, shovels, bleach, buckets, work gloves, batteries, flashlights, face masks and thick black contractor bags.

Donations can be dropped off from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the department located at 5300 Grand Ave., Neville Island, until Friday. The department asked that donors bundle like items together and label all boxes using white duct tape.
