Boyfriend arrested in fatal stabbing of woman
A Carnegie man was arrested Wednesday in the death of his girlfriend, who was found stabbed following an argument in the apartment the two shared.
Jeffrey A. Maloy, 26, was to be arraigned Wednesday night on a homicide charge in the death of Melissa Bowers, 35.
In a criminal complaint, police said they arrived at 103 Railroad St. around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday to find Mr. Maloy standing outside in bloodied clothing, telling them "I [messed] up." Inside the apartment, police found Ms. Bowers facedown and partially clothed with a knife in her back.
A friend of Mr. Maloy's told police that Mr. Maloy showed up at his apartment around 4 a.m. He appeared upset and told the friend he had killed Ms. Bowers.
Mr. Maloy's father, Mark Maloy, told police that his son called him at 3:20 a.m. He apologized for not being "the son he was supposed to be," the complaint said. He called back again at 4 a.m., telling his father he needed him to come over.
When the elder Mr. Maloy arrived at his son's apartment, his son told him he had killed Ms. Bowers. His father called 911 to report the stabbing.
County homicide detectives did not identify a motive for the attack. Chief Jeffrey Harbin said a domestic dispute preceded it.
Mr. Maloy was taken into custody by Carnegie police and later charged by county homicide detectives.
Ms. Bowers' family declined to comment.
