A New Brighton man already jailed for shaking his 2-month-old daughter has now also been charged with homicide in the girl's death.
Robert Heibert, 28, has been in the Beaver County Jail since July 26, two days after police said he shook his daughter, Melanie Alexander, hard enough to cause bleeding on her brain. Police wrote in a criminal complaint that Mr. Heibert admitted to shaking his daughter four times in a week, each with enough force that her head bounced off her chest.
Melanie was pronounced brain dead in Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC late last month.
New Brighton police initially arrested him on charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. They added the homicide charge today, according to online court records. Mr. Heibert is currently being held without bail.
