Allegheny County police took a man into custody who they believe accidentally shot his friend as he traded gunfire with another group Tuesday in McKees Rocks.

Lt. Jeffrey Korczyk said around 7:45 p.m. unidentified men began firing at a car driving away from a Bottom Dollar store at the intersection of Amelia Street and Chartiers Avenue.

Brandon Reynolds, a front seat passenger, fired back. Police believe he accidentally shot Aundre Palmer, a back seat passenger, as the driver hit a curb and blew three tires trying to get away.

Mr. Reynolds faces charges of firearms violations and reckless endangerment.

Mr. Palmer was taken to Allegheny General Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head and is blind from his injury.

Lt. Korczyk said Mr. Palmer and the men who fired at the car had an "unremarkable" conversation inside the store before shots were exchanged, but police are unsure of a motive in the attack.
