A district judge held two McKees Rocks residents for trial this morning the death of Scott King, who police say was lured to a McKees Rocks alley under the guise of a drug deal before he was robbed and shot.

Lavar Whitely, 15, and Christopher West, 18, are charged with homicide, robbery, conspiracy and possession of a firearm by a minor, because Mr. West was 17 when police said he shot Mr. King.

Another teen, 15-year-old Dimitri Humphrey, was also arrested in the slaying, but his preliminary hearing was postponed until Nov. 16.

In a criminal complaint, police said Lavar relayed the story of the shooting to an inmate at the Allegheny County Jail, who spoke to police.

According to the inmate, whom police declined to identify, Lavar said that the trio robbed someone of their iPhone a few days before the shooting.

Posing as the iPhone's owner, they contacted Mr. King, 19, and arranged to buy marijuana from him June 15 in an alley in McKees Rocks.

Lavar told the inmate he remained behind at Mr. West's house as the other two went ahead, police said. The pair told Lavar that Dimitri had tried to rob Mr. King, police said.

When he tried to drive away, both Mr. West and Dimitri opened fire, police said. He crashed his car and was later found with multiple gunshot wounds.

Mr. West and Lavar are scheduled to be formally arraigned Dec. 6.
