West Mifflin police are investigating after a Penn Hills teen was shot three times at the Monview Heights housing complex early Thursday.

Chief Ken Davies said police were called to the 32 Building on Midway Drive after someone called 911 to report hearing shots at 12:28 a.m. Police found the victim, a 17-year-old boy, walking between buildings. He had been shot once in each hand and once in the thigh, Chief Davies said, but was "alert and oriented" before being taken to UPMC Mercy for treatment. He did not believe the boy's injuries were life-threatening.

Two people who were with the boy were questioned by police but no one was arrested.

At around 2 a.m., gunshots rang out again and police were summoned back to the complex. They detained two people.

One, a 15-year-old girl, was charged as a juvenile with defiant trespass and possession of a controlled substance. The other, a man, was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Chief Davies declined to identify either person and said it was unclear if they were connected to the earlier shooting. No weapons was found on either person.
