Woman struck by vehicle Friday night is identified

A woman who was critically injured Friday night when a vehicle struck her while she was lying in the middle of Route 40 in Fayette County has been identified as Sarah Ankrom, 28, of Markleysburg.

State police at Somerset said the accident happened at 9:55 p.m. near the intersection of the National Pike near Newberry Road in Addison.

Police said the woman was lying in the roadway as two bystanders attempted to stop traffic but the vehicle's right tire struck the woman's head and neck.

The woman, who had no identification on her or at the crash scene, was taken by helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. where she remains, police said.
