West Jefferson Hills budget proposal would not raise taxes

The West Jefferson Hills School Board will vote at its June 26 meeting on adoption of a $37.8 million final budget for the 2012-13 school year that does not raise taxes.
At Tuesday's work session of the board, Acting Superintendent Hamsini Rajgopal said it will be the fifth consecutive year without a tax increase.
There are no furloughs or program cuts.
The millage rate of 21.08 mills has been unchanged since 2008.
Each mill generates about $1 million for the district.
The budget amount is $500,000 more than the 2011-12 budget amount of $37.3 million.
Board members attributed holding the line on taxes to: its being a very prudent budget refinancing of bonds at lower interest rates; 96 percent collection rate for real estate taxes; putting newly constructed homes on the tax rolls more quickly for the past few years; and having four professional accountants as board members.
The district also began realizing savings last year by bringing its special education services in-house instead of contracting with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU).
