Rotary looking for philanthropies
McMurray Rotary Club is seeking requests from organizations in the McMurray area for its philanthropic projects next year.

MT. LEBANON
Scouts, foundation get grants
Pennsylvania American Water has awarded Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania and the Mt. Lebanon Education Foundation each $2,500 grants through the company's participation in the state's Educational Improvement Tax Credit program.
The program provides for tax credits to eligible businesses that contribute to a scholarship or educational improvement.
The scouts and foundation are two from a list of 20 that the water company awarded. "We are helping a broad range of organizations that provide classroom technology to public schools, support students seeking higher education, assist families in need and offer educational resources in our local communities,'' said Kathy L. Pape, president.

Rotarians plan oldies dance
Belle Vernon Area and Monessen/Rostraver Rotary clubs will present the annual benefit oldies dance at 8 p.m. Jan. 26 at Rostraver Central Fire Hall.
Proceeds are used to benefit a variety of charitable causes; locally, scholarships are given to seniors at Belle Vernon Area and Frazier high schools and international projects include Polio Plus, the Rotary project to eradicate the disease.
Admission to the BYOB affair is $15, including soft drinks and snacks.
Disc jockey is Ralph Trilli, co-host of the Cruisin' Sunday Oldies show on radio station WJPA in Washington.

WASHINGTON COUNTY
Interchange named for officer hero
A police officer who was killed in the line of duty will have a highway intersection dedicated in his honor Wednesday.
The intersection of Interstate 70 and Route 136 will be known as the Officer John David Dryer Memorial Interchange, said state Rep. Brandon Neuman, D-Washington.
Mr. Dryer, an East Washington borough police officer, was killed and another officer wounded during a traffic stop Dec. 19 along Interstate 70.
The dedication ceremony will take place at 11 a.m on the one-year anniversary of Mr. Dryer's death Wednesday, at the J. Barry Stout park and ride lot at the intersection of I-70 and Route 136.
Rep. Neuman sponsored House Bill 2215, signed into law this summer, to name the interchange to honor Mr. Dryer. The public is invited to the ceremony.
SOUTH FAYETTE
New Parks and Recreation director sought
The township will advertise for the position of parks and recreation director to replace Jerry Males, who resigned in November after more than 11 years on the job.
• Commissioners have invited natural gas drilling firm Range Resources to attend a workshop meetings in the next few months to discuss the firm's plans and activities.
In October, Jim Cannon, the Range Resources local government affairs manager, had requested a meeting with South Fayette officials.
In a Nov. 27 response to the driller, Commissioner Deron Gabrielwrote that the public meetings "offer an appropriate, open, and transparent venue" for discussions.
Range Resource's legal challenge of the township's Marcellus Shale regulations has been stayed in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, pending the outcome of a lawsuit by South Fayette and other parties against Act 13, the state's drilling law.
• The township has requested that the Allegheny County elections department review an imbalance of voters in two voting districts-3 and 7. Township officials said both groups' polling location was at the high school, but voters in District 3 experienced much longer lines and waits in November due to recent growth in that district.
