Breast Care Center opens Tuesday
St. Clair Hospital opens a new state-of-the-art Breast Care Center in Bethel Park Tuesday.
The 6,000-square foot center offers diagnostic imaging technology on the third floor of the St. Clair Hospital Outpatient Center at Village Square, across from South Hills Village.
The $2.5 million center features three mammography rooms; two ultrasound rooms; three examination rooms; two mammography reading rooms; three offices and four consulting rooms. There are also two waiting rooms; a reception area and another private waiting room near the test area as well as private dressing rooms.
The center's architect is IKM Inc. of Pittsburgh and contractor is Volpatt Construction Corp. of Castle Shannon.
In addition to official ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6 p.m. Tuesday, St. Clair Hospital is hosting an open house from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. No reservations are required. Light refreshments served.

Session on Keystone Exams set Wednesday
Parents of Keystone Oaks students in grades 7through 11 have a chance to learn more about the Keystone Exams at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the middle school's large group instruction area.
The event will last approximately one hour.
• The district will host a faculty volleyball game between the middle school teachers and the high school teachers at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 5 in the high school gymnasium. It will raise money for the recently renamed David Armitage & Shawn O'Donnell Future Teacher Scholarship Fund.

Renovated McDonald's opens
After being closed three months for renovations, the McDonald's restaurant, 3723 Washington Road, (Route 19) has reopened.
According to the company, the new restaurant is slightly larger than the previous building and was styled with input from hundreds of local residents who completed in-store surveys.
The restaurant's exterior features a dual lane drive-thru, contemporary stone front, art accent pieces and waterfalls in the main parking lot and outdoor patio seating areas.
The new building is the first McDonald's in the Pittsburgh region to use environmentally friendly LED lighting in the parking lot, signage and interior lights. It's also one of only a handful in the state to feature digital menu boards and a new "dual point" ordering system to improve ordering efficiency. It will include a self-serve beverage bar, LED televisions and a digital satellite music system.
"We even have a section of the dining room designed with our morning coffee customers in mind," said Ron Galiano of Peters, the restaurant's owner/operator.
Road work under way; closures noted
PennDOT District 11 is reconstructing Greentree Road (Route 3052) between the bridge over Chartiers Creek and railroad tracks/Old Washington Pike.
This weekend, Old Washington Pike and Greentree Road will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday. The same closure will occur for the following three weekends, Oct. 26-29, Nov. 2-5, and Nov. 9-12. Signs will be posted to guide motorists during the weekend closures.
The $6.8 million, 3.5-mile project includes milling and resurfacing, drainage, guide rail, curb and sidewalk, signing and pavement markings, signals, bridge rehabilitation and preservation on Route 50. Swank Associated Cos. of New Kensington is prime contractor.
Yard waste collections scheduled
Residents can place leaves and other yard waste in biodegradable bags at the curb Nov. 3 and 10.
For the Saturday leaf curbside collection pickups, all bags must be biodegradable, be sealed tightly and weigh less than 25 pounds.
Sisters mark All Souls Day
The Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God are holding an All Souls Day Luminary Commemoration at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at St. Casimir Cemetery. The short commemoration service will celebrate the lives and service of the deceased members of their community. A reception follows at the Motherhouse, a few blocks away from the cemetery.
