CHILDREN

Pleasant Hills -- Preschool story time for children ages 3 1/2 to 5, including songs, a craft and a snack, will be held at 10:30 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Dec. 18 at Pleasant Hills Public Library, 302 Old Clairton Road. No registration required.

FOOD

Whitehall -- The organization of Baldwin Community Methodist Women will hold its annual homemade cookie sale from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 8 at the church, 5001 Baptist Road. Cookies will be sold at $8 per pound. Proceeds will benefit missions for women, children and youth.

FUNDRAISERS

Dormont -- The Keystone Oaks Marching Band annual Christmas tree sale will run from Nov. 27 to Dec. 15, or until trees run out, with a selection of trees and wreaths available in the parking lot of the Dormont pool, 1801 Dormont Ave. Prices for trees range from $25 to $65. The sale will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekends and from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays.

Whitehall -- The Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God are selling pumpkin spice, hazelnut, French vanilla and hazelnut decaffeinated coffee during the holiday season in 12-ounce bags for $9.99. Profits will defray the cost of caring for retired and infirm sisters. Minimum order that can be mailed is two bags. HOLIDAY EVENTS

Bethel Park -- Christmas gifts can be purchased at a craft and vendor sale from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 2 at Hamilton Presbyterian Church, 4500 Hamilton Road. California -- California United Methodist Church will hold its annual homemade Christmas cookie sale at 9:45 a.m. Dec. 1 at 227 Third and Liberty streets. Different cookies will be available for $12 per box.

Green Tree -- St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic School, 915 Alice St., will hold a holiday craft show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 1, including lunch, a bake sale and raffles.

Mt. Lebanon -- The Mt. Lebanon Winter Guard will host a pancake breakfast with Santa beginning at 8 a.m. Dec. 8 at Mt. Lebanon High School, 155 Cochran Road. A winter carnival also will be held at the high school on the same day until noon. Tickets to the breakfast are $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 2 to 5 and free for children 2 and younger. Ticket form is available at www.leboband.com. Tickets are available at door after Nov. 28.

Jefferson Hills -- The borough of Jefferson Hills will host its 11th annual holiday celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 26 at the municipal building, 925 Old Clairton Road. Residents are asked to bring a new toy to donate to local families in need of help this Christmas.

Peters -- An annual tree lighting ceremony and holiday party will be held at Peters Township Public Library, 616 E. McMurray Road, at 6 p.m. Dec. 2.

Scott -- A gingerbread house workshop will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Dec. 9 at Scott Township Public Library, 301 Lindsay Road. Milk carton base, graham crackers and candy will be supplied, but bring extra candy donations.

West Mifflin -- Friday at 5 p.m. is opening of the 2nd Annual Kennywood Holiday Lights show. The event features 1,000,000 lights, some midway rides, foods, an area for kids to write letters to Santa, cookie decorating, a model train display, memorabilia from "It's a Wonderful Life" -- and, of course, Santa Claus. A holiday light show starts every half hour in the area surrounding the Lagoon.

The event continues from 5 to 9 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night through Dec. 30, plus Dec. 26 and 27. Admission is $15.99; a $2 discount if you buy tickets in advance at participating Giant Eagle locations. Children age 2 and younger free, so is parking. Details: www.kennywood.com.

SPECIAL INTEREST

Baldwin Borough -- An intergenerational book discussion about Yann Martel's "Life of Pi" and a luncheon will be held with Baldwin High School students from 11:30 to 12:45 p.m. Nov. 28 in Baldwin Borough Public Library's program room. Bethel Park -- The Rev. Hugh Burns, a Dominican preacher, will conduct a parish mission titled "Get Real: Religion with Two Feet on the Ground" at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 at St. Valentine Church, 2710 Ohio St. Subsequent talks on topics such as Christian joy and coping with anger will be held at the church at 7 p.m. Dec. 3-5, with a Mass at 11 a.m. Dec. 5.

PERFORMANCES

Mt. Lebanon -- The Mt. Lebanon High School percussion ensemble will hold holiday concerts at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6-7 and at 2 p.m. Dec. 8. in Mt. Lebanon High School auditorium, 155 Cochran Road. Ticket prices: $10 for adults, $8 for students for Thursday and Friday shows and $6.50 for all tickets to the Saturday matinee. Tickets: 412-563-4201.

TALKS

Peters -- Samuel Hazo, Pennsylvania's first poet laureate, will give a talk titled "Poetry in Public Speech" from 2 to 3 p.m. Dec. 2 at Peters Township Public Library, 616 E. McMurray Road.
