South Fayette school directors approved a 0.9911-mill property tax increase tonight as part of a $37.6 million budget for 2012-13.

The increase from 27.833 mills to 28.8241 mills will cost an additional $131 a year for the owner of a home assessed at the township average of $132,029.

The board voted 6-2 to adopt the budget. Two members voted by phone, and one member was absent.

Board members had considered charging students fees to participate in sports. But they ultimately decided the approximately $25,000 the fees would generate wasn't worth it.

"I don't think we can raise taxes and then go charge a fee on top of it," board member Alan Vezzi said.
