South Fayette adds an elementary teacher

South Fayette school directors Tuesday night approved the hiring an additional first-grade teacher to meet increasing enrollment demands.
Primary school principal Laurie Gray said first-grade enrollment will rise from about 210 to 240 students in the coming school year, and an 11th teacher will be needed to keep class sizes around 22 pupils.
Superintendent Bille Rondinelli said while districtwide enrollment would rise by about 100 students this fall, the additional teacher was most crucial in first grade, where pupils focus on literacy and reading skills.
The first-grade teacher's salary will be $44,646.
She added, however, that due to limited space in the elementary school, "we don't have a classroom" for the new teacher. The district planned to move a special education classroom to free up space for first grade.
Ms. Rondinelli also said that "everything is moving along well" on the new intermediate school that's under construction. That school will house students in grades 3 through 5.
