White Oak police Lt. Louis Bender has been hired as the borough's new police chief.

Mayor Ina Jean Marton presented the new chief at council's voting meeting on Monday night.

Before serving as lieutenant for six years, Chief Bender also served as a police sergeant for the borough for about six years. Before that, he worked as a detective for about one year, and as a patrolman for about eight years before that.

He replaces Joseph Hoffman, who retired on Dec. 31.
