Maxi Saver 12, a bargain movie theater in West Mifflin, was scheduled to close Sunday night after the last movie on its schedule had finished.

An employee confirmed the news Sunday afternoon but said she was not permitted to comment further.

The theater, where all tickets are $1, is at 2001 Mountain View Drive and is operated by Carmike Cinemas, based in Georgia, and has been open since about 1991. It has been popular with families and thrifty moviegoers who want to see movies on the big screen and stay within their budget.

Carmike operates 18 other theaters in Pennsylvania, including at South Hills Village and at the Galleria in Mt. Lebanon.

This closing comes on the heels of news late last week that the Washington Mall Cinemas closed with no advance notice to patrons.
