A West Mifflin man was sentenced to 40 to 80 years in prison Monday for the Oct. 31, 2010, shooting death of a woman who lived in Monview Heights apartments.
Taylor West, 24, entered a plea to a general count of criminal homicide, and Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Jill E. Rangos found him guilty of third-degree murder and immediately sentenced him.
According to Assistant District Attorney Patrick J. Schulte, West had smoked synthetic marijuana and returned to the home of Selena Roberts on Midway Drive. She was sleeping upstairs, and when she thought West was being too loud downstairs with a group of other people, Roberts, 40, went down to quiet them.
West punched her multiple times in the face and then shot the woman four times, including twice in the head. He claimed a mixture of the drug and alcohol use that day led to the shooting.
