Jefferson Hills standoff ends safely

A suicidal Jefferson Hills man armed with a gun and two friends kept police at bay for hours in a wooded area before surrendering to officers early today.
Justin Decroix, 23, was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation and will be charged with recklessly endangerment, Jefferson Hills police said.
His two friends--Adam Mains and Mickel Golya, both 22 of West Elizabeth--were taken into custody and will be charged with hindering apprehension, police said.
The incident began at 10:22 p.m. Friday when Jefferson Hills officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1200 block of Walton Road for a report of a suicidal male with a gun. Prior to police arrival, Mr. Decroix fled the scene on foot and into the wooded area behind his home with Mr. Mains and Mr. Golya following.
Police heard several gunshots as they began searching the area for the three males. Area police departments and South Hills Area Council of Governments CIRT responded to provide assistance.
The subjects were located along Walton Road and negotiated with officers for several hours before all three men surrendered and were taken into custody, police said.
