Homestead heroin ring was target of federal investigation

Federal law enforcement officials today announced a round-up of a Homestead-area drug ring stemming from the indictments last week of 34 accused heroin dealers.
The indictments include teenagers connected to a gang known as the "Uptown Crew" which sold heroin in Homestead and is connected to increased incidents of violence in the area, according to U.S. Attorney David Hickton.
All six related indictments were unsealed today and include a range of narcotics and firearm charges including conspiracy to distribute heroin, possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and conspiring to employ people under 18 to distribute heroin.
Of 34 people indicted, five have yet to be captured.

• Richard Wood, 33, of Swissvale.
The first indictment includes charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin, brandishing and discharging firearms during and in relation to a heroin trafficking conspiracy, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

The second indictment includes charges of conspiracy with others to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin.

• Mr. Harris
The third indictment includes charges of distributing and possessing with the intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin and conspiracy to employ and hire persons under 18 to distribute heroin.

• Andre Corbett, 20, of Homestead
• Sterling Marshall, 18, of Munhall
• Tireal Wheeler, 19, of Homestead
• Jordan Murphy, 21, of Homestead
The fourth indictment includes charges of conspiracy with others to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin and conspiracy to employ and hire persons under 18 to distribute heroin.

The fifth indictment includes charges of conspiracy with others to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin, conspiracy to employ and hire persons under 18 to distribute heroin and possession with the intent to distribute less than 100 grams of heroin.

The sixth indictment includes charges of conspiracy with others to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin, conspiracy to employ and hire persons under 18 to distribute heroin and brandishing and discharging firearms during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime and a crime of violence.
