The Allegheny County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a Sunday night house fire in Green Tree that left one man dead.

David McLaughlin, 51, was found dead in the single-family home at 1031 Greenlawn Drive, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner's office.

Alvin Henderson, chief of county emergency medical services, said emergency units responded around 8:15 p.m. He said investigators believe the fire was contained to one room and caused heavy smoke but was quickly extinguished by Green Tree firefighters, who were first on the scene.

Mr. McLaughlin is believed to have been the only person at the residence when the fire broke out, Chief Henderson said.

Investigators are still trying to determine the origin and cause of the fire. County homicide detectives are also investigating.

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office was called to the scene around 9:30 p.m., and an autopsy is scheduled for today.
