Veteran Allegheny County employee Jennifer M. Liptak has been nominated to serve as acting county manager.
If her appointment is approved by council, she would take up her new duties on June 30, temporarily replacing James M. Flynn Jr.
Mr. Flynn will leave the county for another position on June 29.
County Executive Rich Fitzgerald this morning announced his plan to have Ms. Liptak, currently his chief of staff, serve in the manager's post until a permanent replacement is available.
He has said previously that he would nominate school administrator William McKain for the manager's post. Mr. McKain last month submitted his resignation from his job as assistant to the Baldwin-Whitehall School District superintendent for finance and administration, effective Aug. 1.
Charles Martoni, the president of county council, which must approve his appointment, predicted Mr. McKain would pass muster with the legislative branch. The county manager and the county solicitor are the only two executive branch positions that require council approval.
The manager's position pays about $106,500.
