Firefighters battle three-alarm blaze in Castle Shannon

Firefighters pulled a 51-year-old man from a three-alarm house fire that snarled traffic between two polling places in Castle Shannon tonight.
Police Chief Kenneth Truver said officials were called to the 7300 block of Locust Lane about 5 p.m. tonight for a report that a single-family home had caught fire and a man had run into the building. When firefighters arrived, they pulled the man from the burning building and medics whisked away to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries.
The man lives alone in the home and no one else was injured, the chief said. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
Chief Truver said the fire happened between two polling places -- the Myrtle Avenue Elementary School and the Castle Shannon Library -- and that both were allowed to remain open, although traffic in the area moved slowly while firefighters attempted to douse the blaze.
