The Sears department store at Century III Mall reopened this afternoon after a fire caused the evacuation of that store and the adjacent Philip Pelusi hair salon shortly before 9 a.m. today.

No other stores were affected at the West Mifflin shopping center, mall general manager Gina Mercorelli said.

Philip Pelusi planned to remain closed for the day, according to Ms. Mercorelli.

The fire was believed to have started in the elevator shaft at Sears, Ms. Mercorelli said. The hair salon was evacuated because of the smoke, she said.

"The fire was pretty contained," she said. "... I don't even know if there was any damage to the store."

Sears had opened at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and was open all night before the fire broke out.

She said she didn't know how many fire departments besides West Mifflin's responded to the blaze.
