Mt. Lebanon residents voted Tuesday to keep all three school board incumbents in office and added two new faces to the nine-member board for 2012.

Unofficial results show three of the five seats will be filled by current board members Elaine L. Cappucci, Lawrence Mark Lebowitz and Ed Kubit, who all ran on both the Democrat and Republican ballots. New to the board are Scott D. Goldman, who also ran on both tickets, and Democrat William L. Cooper.

They defeated the other newcomer, James Edmund Cannon, also a Republican.

Votes for the four write-in candidates won't be officially tallied for a few weeks, but even if all the votes went to one candidate, they likely wouldn't be enough knock out one of the leaders. Paula Bongiorno, Rudy Bies, Charlotte Stephenson and Joseph Wertheim, who were all running as a group and in solidarity with Mr. Cannon, entered the race a week before the elections. They earned 2,922 votes.

With the most votes in the race at 6,236, Ms. Cappucci said she is happy with the results.

"I think our community and our kids really won last night," she said Wednesday.

A four-year member of the board and 15-year PTA volunteer, Ms. Cappucci also has been a volunteer at elementary and middle school and at the high school, according to answers on a questionnaire submitted to all six official board members last month. A graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School, Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., and Duke University, she works as an environmental consultant.

Among Ms. Cappucci's goals are to increase focus on student achievement, complete the high school renovation project on time and within budget, craft a new strategic plan and better manage the school district's finances.

As a four-year school board member, Mr. Kubit will return with support for the Mt. Lebanon High School modernization project.
