Dormont council has named a new manager and will hold an official vote Monday.
Council President Bill McCartney confirmed that Jeffrey Naftal has accepted the offer from the borough. Mr. Naftal has worked in local government management for more than 25 years and was most recently a resident of Lancaster County, S.C., according to his LinkedIn page.
He specializes in organizational change, budgeting, team building, employee relations and technology implementation among other things, according to his LinkedIn page. He worked nine years as assistant town manager and another nine as assistant city manager, both in South Florida.
Mr. Naftal earned master's in public and human resources management from St. Thomas University and a bachelor's from The George Washington University.
Council President Bill McCartney said in early June that he hoped to finish the manager hiring process by mid-July. The search, aided by local government policy expert Michael Foreman, attracted 22 candidates from as far away as Missouri, Minneapolis and Florida, Mr. McCartney has said. Some out-of-state candidates had ties to the area.
The position was left vacant after Gino Rizza resigned in February. Mr. Naftal is expected to start Monday after the council vote.
The budget allows $75,000 for the manager position, but the sum could increase depending on the hire and was not specified in the employment ad. At the time of his resignation, former manager Gino Rizza was making between $68,000 and $70,000, not including benefits, Mr. McCartney has said.
The regular business meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday in council chambers. Mr. Naftal is expected to attend.
